It's funny, everyone here is talking about their past and broken relationships, and I'm here hoping someday I'll experience one at all. I'm 21 and I've never been in love, never had a boyfriend, never been kissed. I know there's still time, but sometimes I wonder if I'll ever find someone to love me. In an odd way, this song gives me hope.

Edit: 6 years later and I forgot I ever made this comment! To everyone who wished me well and gave me advice, thank you. You are all so lovely. ❤
I'm 27 now. I have been dating my first boyfriend for over a year, met him New Years Eve of 2023. I don't know if he's the one, but having him in my life has been a huge blessing, and I have been changed and stretched in ways I never thought possible. Thank you for asking after me, even after all this time. It means so much that all of these people on the internet care about a random stranger in a comment section.

"It's better to feel pain, than nothing at all, the opposite of love's indifference". Wow some powerful words!!

After finding out this song is about healing from a lifetime of trauma & dissociation and learning how to find healthy love, it’s no coincidence that I loved this song the moment I heard it.

Ever noticed "It's better to feel pain, than nothing at all" links to Ophelia's "And I don't feel nothing at all" almost like one is the aftermath of the other?

This song reminds me of the only real childhood I ever had. My step mom would play the lumineers on repeat and I’d listen to it in the car. My home with my actual mom and step dad was never the best. But when I went with my step mom and dad … it was amazing. The lumineers makes me feel truly alive and brings me back to those inner childhood memories. I am going to see them play this year with my step mom… it really is insane to me. ❤

I know a lot of people are writing personal things and no one cares, but this song reminds me of a guy I really loved... he sank deeper and deeper into depression and spent months in and out of psych wards for repeated suicide attempts. I tried to help him... let him know someone was there for him. He stopped talking to me after I started drinking... I just hope he's okay. I miss him.

"she'll tear a hole in you, the one you can't repair. But I still love her, I don't really care" ... so relatable tbh. Loving someone that only hurts you time and time again.

Diving into your emotions and feeling the pain will help you. When you are able to face the pain and hurt you will be able to let go and feel an amazing freedom. It’s human to let go when you feel the pain. We all have this ability. You only have to find and face your own pain. Do not be afraid of the pain, do not walk around it, do not pretend it’s not there. It’s there alright, it's waiting for you to discover it and feel it. Music will help you finding. Feel the pain with everything you have inside yourself. Only then it will disappear and make room for freedom. Stop thinking and start feeling!

The Lumineers have so much good music. They are so underplayed (For the most part), and have quite beautiful songs. Right on!

When I'm too tired, too weak, too broken, to hold up my own head, this song lifts it for me, as well as my heart. Thank you so much.
