For fans of Gypsy Jazz Guitar and Django Reinhardt. A video that I taped from Channel 4 in the UK that I've had since 1991. Featuring Gary Potter, Jimmy Rosenberg, Stochelo Rosenberg, Bereli Lagrene,Boulou Ferre, Django's son Babik and Serge Krief. A couple of tiny clips were removed featuring Django's original playing to stop the video from being banned for Copyright e.g. The Credits at the end.

I worked on this film with John Jeremy in 1989 on location in France, Holland and Germany and am very happy to see it being circulated. Mr Jeremy was a champion for jazz music in Europe but in the UK in particular at a time when extraordinary musicians were being edged out of the mainstream.  He is retired now and never made the "digital leap", so literally disappeared. It was a marvelous experience and I know that he will be very happy when I tell him that his work dodged a bullet and made it to the internet.  Thanks for the Love!

It's a beautiful thing to know that long after we're all gone, this music will flourish and continue and will inspire future generations.

Oh, this is a wonderful documentary! I am a big fan of Django Reinhardt. He was not only a masterful guitarist but also a very remarkable composer. His legacy still lives; anyone who plays guitar will sooner or later come across Django Reinhardt. His influence on guitar music is immense.

Great stuff, and thanks for posting this! I had the honour of jamming with Gary Potter in the eighties when my dearly missed brother Chris drummed in the same band: A real gentleman and a dude. A huge talent and I hope you've gone on to great things, Gary. God bless.

So glad to see this on here. I wore my copy out and have found it impossible to replace. One highlight for me is Jimmy Rosenberg as the middle one of the 'Gypsy Kids' years before the heroin addiction which has so tragically affected this great musician's future life.

That was unbelievable! May I say the Liverpudlian truly held his own here? He was one of the best!

Thanks for sharing, I copied this onto VHS when it was broadcast, and pretty much wore it out by playing, pausing and rewinding. I never could work out what these fellas where playing, but had a lot of fun trying. my own playing is pitiful compared to what is presented here Very few people listening to me attempt to play some simple folk song would ever guess that my playing was influenced by this this, but I was. Thanks again for the upload.

In Robin Nolan's gypsy jazz songbook he wrote that Bireli and Babik play Djangology in this film and that it is "pure poetry" and that that Bireli's solo is "stunning".  That is why I found this amazing documentary!  But this duet (and Bireli in particular here) was the worst music in the film!!  You can clearly see Bireli struggling.  Great film. Great music.
