The irony to think Desantis is Pro family…..but he’s ok with those families struggling with food insecurities. What a POS.

Free food for kids means more stable and useful subsidies for farmers, too. DeSantis passed up a golden opportunity to invest in Florida agriculture by not commiting to buying vegetable crops and locally raised meat to feed the state's kids.

3 months ago they just approved 135 million for a new police station in Tallahassee - we don't need a new police station, and building it wouldn't cost 135 million dollars. No food for kids so he can build a bigger prison system.

Desantis also seems to think florida should only be the exclusive home of millionaires who make their money by paying people $6/hr and no benefits.

The "family values" party, sure does a lot of things to harm families.

Fun fact- DeSantis tried to come at Tim Walz today but Governor Walz actually gave all children in MN kids free lunch. Why? He understood the necessity as a former teacher!

How does this sqaure with any Christian values?

How can people claim to stand on the foundation of the Bible and who claim they are pro life deny food to kids? I'm not seeing any policy they're passing to unify our country.

Feed kids for free all the time!
Say that to folks and carefully note the ones who say NO.
The 'why not' answer is their tell. It demonstrates that cruelty is the point for them...

That’s no mistake. Cruelty is what they peddle.

Any gov. Official that takes from children is despicable. We live in a rich country. The GOP give to tbe rich, take from programs that help children and the elderly. Our most vulneerable.those who bow in favor of those who have more money than they could spend in 50 lifetimes is beyond evil.

You know you're a bad governor when there's 4 different petitions to have you removed from office, and as a floridian this pleases me SO much 🎉

I live in a small rural town in Kansas. The local school is open for people to come eat for free here all summer even though school is no longer in session.

True that! As he tries to slander Minnesota Gov picked for Harris's VP.. He got this done for school kids in his state! Good job on his part!!

There's absolutely no reason why anyone in America should go hungry. America cannot call its self Humanitarian while letting it's own people suffer.

In England a few hundred years ago, serfs and peasants weren't allowed to hunt. That way, they wouldn't get enough protein and would be less active and easier to control. Perhaps that is what Governor De Santis wants for his peasants.

For those saying this is false or that they want more info, The Guardian had a good article with quotes from the Florida Director of No Kid Hungry’s comments on this:

“Less than 10% of children who participate in free and reduced lunch during the school year are also able to get a summer meal.

“Federal child nutrition programs are meant to work in conjunction with others, not one over the other, to meet the needs of a whole state. There are fantastic programs and communities doing the best they can, but it’s unrealistic to think all families can stop their work day, visit a site, have their child consume that meal on site and then go back to work. And in some communities it’s unsafe for children to walk to a meal site on their own, it’s too far and too hot.”
