Whether you are looking to grow sweet peppers, ornamental peppers, or the hottest pepper in the world, growing the pepper plant from seed can be very rewarding. Successfully growing pepper plants take attention and patience, and it all starts with germination. Luckily, pepper germination all happens indoors in a controllable environment and it can be done in just 5 steps.

Before you start the stages of germination, read this checklist to make sure you have everything you need to prep:

• Gloves (this is optional if you are dealing with super-hot peppers because you don't want the oil to irritate your eyes or skin- ouch!)
• Water
• Seed Starting Mix of Choice
• Heat Mat
• Seed Germination Tray with Humidity Dome (link below)
• Light Source

@Pepper Joe's I am new to peppers. I can withstand eating 3 ghost peppers at once without getting sick or lighting on fire. I am young, at about 13 years old. I would like to say, I can already tell that you are an amazing person and I would like to thank you for all of the opportunities you give to the pepper community.

Planted the Mad Hatter seed 10 pack 2 weeks ago not one has sprouted yet. They say 2-6 weeks which seems awful, y long to sprout any seed. I’ll give them a few more weeks and see if I get any success. When picking my own seeds to plant I pick the bigger healthier looking ones but the seeds they sent my had only a few of the type I keep of my own to sprout.

Pucker Butt recommends no deeper than an 1/8 of an inch depth for planting chile seeds. I've always gone a little deeper like you.

thanks for great video. in one of your articles, you wrote that peppers love sand and that a good mix is 1/3 of the following (sand, composted manure and potting/garden soil) for potted pepper plants. i followed your recipe about two days ago and await in anticipation for good results. others however say that all the sand will do is turn the mix into cement and is detrimental- what say you? thank you very much

Would you water these with a spray bottle or pouring water directly into the tray? Thanks

I don’t have a heat pad for under. Can I put it in my window sill? My window sill is tile and they stay warm. I get sun all day in that area. Good or bad idea?
