I got so mad at my manager one time for making an older lady get out my line and go to self checkout. For some of my older customers that could have been the only time they get any socialization for the week.

When I worked in a grocery store, there was this older lady, I’m guessing maybe a few decades younger than my, now deceased, grandmother (which is old, she was 106 by the time she died here last summer)

After a while of her coming up to me and asking me to help her shop, my boss came to me and asked me to go help her shopping as my boss knew the lady, that she was living alone with no relatives nearby

So I did. I spent an hour of my workday, on full pay shopping, shopping with the Nordic equivalent of a Babushka. Honestly the best thing I’ve worked with since I started my working career

The 'slow' checkout just is the regular one with a dedicated cashier

I remember when I worked in customer service front of house, we were told my our manager that if an elderly patient starts talking to you have a conversation, as the majority of our elderly patients were widowed and alone a lot of the time. I had some lovely conversations with our customers, and they were all upset when I said that I'd be leaving soon as I was going back to uni. So very lovely

As a former cashier, I don’t know if I’d be suited to the slow cashier lane. I’m so used to checking stuff out really quickly. Six years of retail is a hell of a drug

The slow checkout is so wholesome, especially in what can sometimes feel like a fast profit driven world

Also imthise pets be thinking they can win... but teally its great thay yhe owner and pet seem to have such a good bond.

They installed slow checkouts but where’s the speedy checkouts for those of us that need to make it home then to the doctors office in less than 10 minutes

Where as American stores are all moving towards self checkout... It's gotten to the point where the grocery store we've shopped at since 2015 added a self checkout about a year ago... And they went from having four or five cashiers at a time to maybe having two possibly three...
