I believe that it’s confirmed that Piggy Book 3 takes place before the events of Book 1 and Book 2, so it taking place in 1985 could make sense.

Since Finley is driving the DeLorean from Back to the Future (because of the Flux Capacitor), 1985 might just be a reference to the movie because it is the year that Marty is trying to get back to after he travels to the past.
