Tropical Storm Gaemi has turned into a typhoon. The storm was upgraded around 2 p.m. on Monday. It’s tracking north-northwest over the Philippine Sea, and should come closest to Taiwan on Wednesday and Thursday. Yilan, Matsu, and central and northern Taiwan are likely to see its strongest effects.

According to the Central Weather Administration, we can expect a land warning on Tuesday, between noon and the evening. By Wednesday, the periphery of the storm may have arrived at the East Coast. Between late Wednesday and early Thursday, the eye of the storm could potentially make landfall in Yilan. The eye is expected to travel along the northern coastline, bringing Force 10 winds to Northern Taiwan.
