Another thing to look for is if you had tipped the mower recently on its side filling the head with oil will make it smoke also. Do not worry it will clear out on its own but re-check the oil level and top off if needed. Do NOT over-fill. Now There’s Your Dinner!!

my 2003 craftsman LT1000 had gas in the oil. i thought the anti-backfire solenoid was the problem, so i installed a shut-off valve on the fuel line. now i know the real reason. thanks taryl!

Came home from work one day a couple years ago, the wife was cutting the lawn ( bless her heart ) The mower was smoking a little, asked her if she put gas in it. Yes she put 2 stroke gas in it. Wasn’t really smoky so just ran it through. I wrote in large felt pen on cans what gas to what machine. She said I see that but the big can with lawn mower on it was too heavy! 😜

Taryl. You da man. Brother-in-law fired up his mower for first mow this year. Smoking like CRAZY! Different issue than your vid, but I'm smart because I watch your vids. I figured it out quickly ... two stroke gas/oil mix can was nearest to the four-stroke mower and BIL decided to use that can. It lubed up the mower innards nicely until we drained, refilled.

I traded some labor for a Kawasaki 2500 mule that smoked like crazy. Guy said the engine was bad. The muffler was full of old black oil. Flooded engine, drained muffler, repaired carb and new plugs. Runs great now. Rule #1 you have to be smarter than what your working with.

#1 reason for a smoking push mower? You tipped it on it's side or upside down to clean it or sharpen/change the blade and oil ran down the breather tube and into the carb and air cleaner.

I can't tell you how many times we've had someone return a push mower to the store I work at because it's smoking and turns out they put a whole quart of oil in it. and being the only employee that actually knows small engines i've saved a few sales by just draining the excess oil for the customer and educating them on how to read the dipstick. one guy had the oil completely filled to the top of the dipstick tube.
