W.H.O. statement of 2-3 times greater risk of reinfection is an inaccurate interpretation of the numbers in the study, whether intentional or not. drbeen's youtube video site explains the numerical conversions to get the accurate risk ratios for each of the 4 S. A. infection waves on a percentage scale (see study comments below).

A South African study ("Increased risk of SARS-CoV-2 reinfection associated with emergence of the Omicron variant in South Africa") released on (Dec. 3) found a decrease in prior infection immunity protection of only 16% down from the Delta wave. Natural immunity among South Africans analyzed still offers 75% protection, compared to 91% protection from reinfection with Delta. The other 2 waves in S.A. were driven by Wuhan & Beta and acquired immunity was estimated to give reinfection protection for these at 80 & 85%. S. A. has many
immunocompromised people, as 25% of the population has HIV which could lead to higher reinfection rates compared to other countries.
