This is the quickest way to make a 3D object out of a 2D image. There are other ways, but they take a while.

Still works in 2024! Very easy and straightforward tutorial. It's also nice how you thoroughly explained it for beginners in Blender who likely haven't fully grasped the power of hotkeys/shortcuts yet.

If you're on a PC and the Alt+R step won't work, make sure its not a keybind through your GeForce Experience. I struggled for a while getting the rotation correctly because my Alt+R would activate my PC performance overlay. Either disable GeForce Experience when working on this stuff, or rebind different functions! Good luck!

Another way to do it is to convert the image to a vector file or svg. Then u can just import and they come in as curves etc (better for complex geometry). No tracing needed. Nice tutorial though

great video ^-^, btw just in case you didn't know . At 3:47 when your selecting the points, you can also just hit c and select it by drawing over the line, takes much less time then selecting them each one by one. Ty for the info in the vid!

you can select all the vertices by pressing A on your keyboard, also SCROLL, it's impossible to make an accurate trace without zooming in. Keep up the good work!
