Personally the birthday party scene in Signs with the Alien eventually walking by the alley really got me as a kid

The jump scare in Mulholland Drive was so terrifying for me simply because of how utterly unprepared I was for it. That movie is already so weird, and that scene hit me just right when I watched it.

The real jumpscare is the sudden switch of narrators

The nurse and the ✂from Exorcist 3 was probably my favorite and most memorable. The scene didn't rely on low lights or graphic CGI. Just disturbing and completely caught off guard with no buildup at that time to prepare us

Sloth in Seven got me good. I was a senior in high school watching it at home on a psychology class assignment.

That earlier “clap clap” when those hands appeared from that wardrobe is so iconic and terrifying.

Great list! Sinister scared me to the bone. Something about Bagul just completely creeps me out.

That jump at the end of "Carrie" was the first one i was ever saw, and I learned to expect them all the time after that, so it spoiled a LOT of future movies for me as a child, since I covered my eyes nearly all the time, lol.

My absolute FAVOURITE jump scares are when you can vaguely see the monster out of focus behind the protagonist. Chilling, especially if the scene is set in the dark. Hereditary used this a few times, and it was so well done. In my opinion, it's the most unnerving type of jump scare. Sort of being able to see the monster but not really is something that haunted me when I was younger, when I thought I could see the outlines of people beside my bed or in the closet. I could talk about this for hours, I absolutely love when they put this in movies.

I hate jump scares, but watched this video to see if Bilbo's sudden transformation made the list. I saw that in the theatre & nearly jumped out of my skin!

I’m so glad that y’all gave Mario Bava’s Shock the recognition it deserves! In my opinion, it’s a great and underrated film!

Signs is among the best stories ever told. It doesn't cover only the alien part of the film, but religion and faith, as well. It's brilliant, and M. Night is a master of his craft. 👍💯

Sloth in Seven. Even if you've already seen the movie, the jump always gets you. He looks so dead and unmoving. You know he's going to move, but unless you've memorized when, you're still gonna jump.

The real jumpscare in "Signs" is the alien in the party

That scene of red lipstick face from Insidious was one of the most shockingly scary moment of my entire horror movie experience and it was only an honorable mention not making the list of your top 20? Come on! That scene can easily give anyone a heart attack!!!

The one from Mulholland Drive is genuinely disturbing. Idk just something about that one and the way it is realistic and the quick, shocking nature of it just really got to me.

The Exorcist 3 and Mullholland Drive are my favorite jump scares

Shocking that that one scene in Mama didn't make it in the list where she chases after the children, also, that's a solid number 1

I saw the IT slideshow scare coming from a mile away.. and the clap clap in the conjuring would have been one of the best jump scares in a very long time if they hadn’t played it a thousand times in the trailer.
