So glad they are taking down the real manences, kids with skateboards, instead of the innocent homeless fentanyl addicts, drug dealers, and car thieves! If only the SFPD just had more officers!

This is a yearly event. The PD not only knows this but decided to meet it with aggression. That's why people rioted.

I've been a skater all my life and gone too numerous downhill skating events. there are good reasons that these events require permits and can be shutdown. they have to comply with public safety ordinances. the participants are free to risk injury to themselves. but the moment you put the safety of others at risk and damage property, you're done. try not to see this as representing all of skateboarding culture. these are a bunch of privileged kids trying to be edgy and never have consequences.

I will say this. Side shows not okay (turns out some of those cars are stolen). Off road motorbikes (without license plates) and quads screaming down busy streets not okay. Stopping traffic and even riding down sidewalks not okay. And this event was not okay. This wasn't about skateboarding as much as (I was recently told by someone who almost hit me in a cross walk "I'm gonna do me like I do me!"). I used to participate in Critical Mass rides here in S.F. for several years but stopped when some riders I noticed were just doing some sh...t because they could hide behind those riding for the fun of it. This is really an issue of what a immature and selfish society seems to be evolving here in S.F.

The skaters need to work in harmony with the system.
It could be an attraction for tourism like Soap Box Derby, Cheese Rolls and The Tour De France
