The case for Elizabeth Warren

To fix the country's problems, you have to understand them.

This video is one of a series in which Vox writers argue the cases for the leading Democratic candidates in the 2020 election. (Vox does not endorse individual candidates.)

Elizabeth Warren is 70, but she’s a relative newcomer to politics. Before she became a US senator in 2012, she was a law professor. And in the early 2000s, she was driven by one question: Why, at a time when the economy seemed so good, were so many American families declaring bankruptcy?

The answers she found turned her into one of the country’s fiercest advocates for consumers. They helped change how we think about the economy itself. And, Vox’s Ezra Klein argues, it’s Warren’s understanding of America’s big, systemic problems that makes her uniquely qualified to be the next president.

So: What exactly is it that Elizabeth Warren understands? What kind of president would she be? And what does any of that tell us about how she would fare in a general election against Donald Trump?

This is funny how a person living 3000km for the USA like me has to care about US politics since it affects the world so much.

Elizabeth Warren has aged impressively, she's 70 years old 🤯

She doesn't really have a path to the nomination at this point, but she'd be an amazing Senate Majority Leader or Vice President

Warren had the best debate performance in the primary when she brought an asteroid down on Bloomberg.

I had goosebumps as I was watching that interview in 2004 because I knew many unqualified people who were getting those loans. US has been cruel to its own people over and over again.

I loved Warren before she started going off the rails on medicare, her advisers have ruined here run. And she just imploded when she started going after Sanders.

It's been years but I still get kinda shocked when I hear the words President Trump sometimes.

I love the line about how process determines outcome. No other candidate focuses so much on how the system is broken, it won’t change just by winning, the system needs to be fixed

I'd say realistically : Bernie for Pres and Warren for Vice Press. Love them both equally though.

Lizzie is my second. She straightforward, she seems driven towards specifics. If she doesn't win she could be a huge force in the new Senate.

I'll say what many have said already: Bernie is my first pick but if he doesn't get the nomination Warren would also be an excellent choice.

Voting for Bernie but I hope that god Warren has a place in his admin.

Elizabeth has always been my first pick. I love her brutal pragmatism and laser-focused approach to dismantling both arguments and challenges presented against her policies. I also love Bernie’s ambitious yet fervent passion to fight for corruption, against the marginalized, and consistent support for platforms enabling the American people.

Together, they’d take cronyism/elitism/Darwinian Capitlaism and flip it on its head.

Bernie over Warren any day. Warren lost me when she started going against Medicare for all and accusing Bernie of being a sexist..

I like both Warren and Sanders. Earlier on I thought I'd be voting for Warren. I'd love her to be Sander's running mate

If this woman would have ran instead of Hilary in the 2016 election, we might have won
