When I was a kid growing up, the Davy Crockett craze swept our neighborhood. I found this Disney promo for the forthcoming series featuring Fess Parker singing what would become the famous theme song.

I was born in East Tennessee and was a kid when his movie came out. One day (in 2nd grade), I sang this song in front of the whole class.

We all sang along to this song, when we watched the Davy Crockett show. And every kid wanted a racoonskin hat with the tail.

I'm not American, I'm from Chile, but I love this song by David Crockett and also the interpretation of Fress Parker as Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone.

Wonder if those boys ever thought we would be listening to them to this very day.

I always loved Fess Parker. His acting style reminds me of Clint Walker.

I have three cousins who are older than I am and I used to drive them crazy by playing this song over and over, they finally hid the record. BTW, I have many cousins.

Lyrics
Born on a mountain top in Tennessee Greenset state in the land of the free
Raised in the woods so he knew ever tree
Kilt him a b'ar when he was only three
Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the wild frontier

Fought single-handed through the Indian war
'Til the creeks was whipped an' peace was in store An' while he was handlin' this risky chore Made himself a legend for evermore
Davy, Davy Crockett, the man who don't know fear

He went off to Congress an' served a spell
Fixin' up the Government an' law as well
Took over Washington so I heard tell
An' patched up the crack in the Liberty Bell
Davy, Davy Crockett, seein' his duty clear

When he come home his politicking was done Why the western march had just begun So he packed his gear an' his trusty gun
An' lit out a-grinnin' to follow the sun
Davy, Davy Crockett, a leadin' the pioneer

He heard of Houston an' Austin so
To the Texas plains he just had to go
Where freedom was fightin' another foe
An' they needed at the Alamo
Davy, Davy Crockett, king of the wild frontier

Fess Parker was iconic for my generation, the Baby Boomers . In an interview long after he retired, Fess said that when he meets a Baby Boomer for the first time he knows exactly what is going to come out before they say it . I think he genuinely liked us . My guess is that what is going to come out is “ I grew up with you ! “

Loved Davy Crockett as a kid in the Fifties.

Then as an adult I learned why Davy Crockett fought and died at the Alamo. White Texans had to break away from Mexico if they wanted to be allowed to own black Texans. Mexico outlawed slavery well before Lincoln.

“Hey, kid. What’d you do, jump ship? “
-“What? “
-“What’s with the life preserver?”
“I just wanna use the phone.”
“Yeah, it’s in the back.”
