So blessed to have found this channel. I left the WOF and because of Doreen Virtue's recommendation started listening to a Calvinist group of men a few months ago only to be grieved. First they say the Word is all-sufficient but then they say half of the Word has ceased to be true anymore. They mock Christians who hear from God despite scriptures all through the Bible like: Psalm 16:7: I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel; My heart also instructs me in the night seasons,
Is.50:4: He awakens Me morning by morning;He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple and
John 14:26 :But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. They say that we are not to add to the Bible, but then add all kinds of convoluted reasonings to explain away what the Bible says or to make scriptures fit their doctrine. They say that when Jesus said he longed to gather the unsaved in his arms, he was saying he just longed for some of them but not the ones pre-elected for Hell. They make the message of salvation confusing and God is not the author of confusion. When Doreen had a vision of Jesus, they had to do some complicated mental gymnastics to explain away the vision as the enemy's doing but say the revelation she got from this vision- that Jesus is Lord and the whole Bible is true- was legit. But then that means that Doreen heard from God outside of reading the Bible and their doctrine condemns God personally speaking to a person so...??? On and on the inconsistencies baffled me.

I go to a Baptist church whose pastors have a lot of Calvinistic influences.
When I give my testimony it can get under their skin a little because my testimony is filled with miracles. And I did not come to believe when I heard the gospel preached by an evangelist or the Bible, but rather when the Word of God, Jesus Christ Himself, who called me to Him, told me to trust Him, and set me free and healed me.

May God bless Leighton! By far my favorite theologian on soteriology. Today I preached in Romanian from Romans 8:28-30, a difficult biblical passage. In order to prepare for it I read commentaries but read thrice from The Potter's Promise and listened thrice those three videopocasts on this particular biblical paragraph. I'm so grateful to his ministry.

Under Calvinism, why the middle-man, so-to-speak. Why give faith through hearing, if the ability to hear comes from God waking you up? Why not just give you the faith without needing to hear? Seems inefficient to put in an extra step. If I were a Calvinist, I would have a question or two about that. Being a non-Calvinist, the verse makes normal sense in a normal context without any pretzel-work to twist logic and grammar.

Faith comes from God. God grants repentance and faith. God is the author and finisher of faith. No one seeks after God.

Thank you mr Flowers for your ministry! It has been a great help to me. I also saw something here. If under calvinism, according to this verse, what does the power of satan have to do with it if it is Gods power of election that cant be undone? Under calvinism the role of satan in this verse makes no sense. It would seem irrelevant to mention "the power of satan". Power for him to do what exactly?
