I just got into customizing and started my own instagram for it. I've been super gluing the bases but this is so much better. Thank you.

I 100% am going to customize some old beat up vehicles in my collection and have a blast repainting and wheel swapping.

:28 BRILLIANT technique! Very inspirational. Seriously one of the best videos I’ve found in 3 years covering this subject.

That’s awesome, looks so much cleaner than a glued on base

I know this video is pretty old, but maybe this comment still reaches you. You can try to get some Taptite Screws in various sizes, they are excellent for tapping holes without tapping equipment.
They don't have a round profile like normal screws but a trilobular profile, thus reducing surface friction while tapping. Also the threads are not smooth but micro serrated, increasing the amount of material removed from the tapped hole per revolution. This all increases the quality of the cut thread and also increases process reliability.

Tip : if you removing carefully the rivets, you dont have to tap it and change it with bolt, because it will leave a mark that does it like snap mark and its pretty much strong to holding the chassis/base, i always to this

I used to do it with magnets. Since they allow you to quickly remove and put on the details of the model

A small drill press works way better with more straight, centered holes being produced. One can be had for 50-60 dollars at Harbor Freight on sale.
