F-Zero - Mute City (Neon X remix)

Remix of the Mute City theme from F-Zero on SNES

At the time when F-Zero was released to the SNES, it was the superior racing game when looking at speed. Jeez this was fast. I couldn't really handle the vehicles, I was used to much slower speeds from other racing games.

The theme of Mute City though, wasn't fast enough to get passed by my ears, this melody really stucked! And it was so good, I hadn't heard anything like it when it was new on SNES. I also noticed it's used in later games which proves the timeless sound to it.

As for the composition of my remix I tried to add quite an amount of unique arrangements with many parts I made from scratch which is my own.

I hope you enjoy this and share your thoughts/feelings/memories from F-Zero!

Holy heck, this is soooo good! I usually try not to overreact, but man, you just completely blew this remix out of the water! Like, just listening to this, I'm all smiles, as it's pure ear candy. 😊

Everything in this remix sounds incredible, from the original arrangement, to the instrument selection - and the effects you applied to them - to the percussion... just wow. I love that fade in at the start, and it really creates a sense of vehicles rushing in at warp speed from a distance. In fact, the whole remix just oozes a sense of breakneck speed, but not in an uncontrolled way - it's got that retro eurobeat vibe that makes you feel excitement from start to finish! ^_^

I love the synth chords you used at the start to recreate that iconic chord progression, and the plucked rhythm synth has an awesome groove that never feels repetitive, and I love the attack on the preceding 8th note for each measure to give it additional syncopation. And of course, that lead synth is just perfect and just makes my heart melt with happiness. If you don't mind my asking, what instrument (or layers) did you use for that lead synth (the one that emerges at 0:19)? I love the way you used it, with those bent notes, portamento slides, and that rising vibrato. I know it probably takes a lot of work to get it to sound like that, but the result is fantastic.

Also, on the topic of synths, I absolutely _adore_ that harmony synth that joins in right at 0:43, and compliments the lead melody so well. It sounds like an awesome duet being played on synth keyboards, and I can picture two musicians just going at it, giving each other a look of intensity, like two guitarists shredding in sync. The part you wrote there just sounds superb, and resonates so well with the main melody, it's just beautiful to listen to.

I'm also a huge fan of that riser you used at 0:37 to transition into that section where the percussion drops out for a bit... It feels like your car just soared off a ramp at that part, gliding through the air as that cymbal crash releases slowly. I love those kinds of transitions that give you a sense of flight and freedom, and you've created that feeling perfectly at 0:39.

And then when that tom fill at 0:47 leads into that sick beat at 0:49, it's just icing on the cake. I love that classic, hard-hitting synthwave beat you have there. When listening to this for the first time, I was like, "seriously, it's this awesome, and not even a minute into the song yet?"... and yet the energy of the song never lets up. And man, that improv section starting at 2:03 so creative and masterfully written, and it's completely in-theme with the song, as if it was always meant to be there. You have an incredible way of writing in original parts that fit in seamlessly with the original melodies, and I just admire the heck out of that.

So yeah, I'll be the first to admit that F-Zero was wayy too fast for me. Even certain levels in SNES Star Fox were a bit too quick (e.g., Meteo & Titania), so I'm good with the more manageable pace of games like Mario Kart and Diddy Kong Racing. 😅 I think we rented F-Zero once and never went back to it because the game was just too dang hard. Now that I have an SNES Mini, though, I should give it another chance. Regardless, I've always been really fond of F-Zero's music, and Mute City is just a legendary theme.

Okay, I think I've taken up enough of your comment space (and time reading this), but I just want to reiterate how much I loved this. There are few other remixes I can think of that give me this same level of fast-paced excitement when listening, and this is one that I know I'll keep coming back to, even years from now. Thanks, Neon X! 🏎

The Mute City Theme definitely suits your Neon X remix style, and what a great job you did here as expected. Great work as always!

I seriously need to refrain from commenting on every single remix of yours I've put in my playlist, but god damn does this ever put a smile on my face while biking on my way to university and back home every single day :)

I was surprised by this remix, as I was expecting it to be metal along with all the other ones, but the synthwave take on it is really cool
