From 2D drawing to 3D model

A little experiment I did based on the Griffin design I did for Fantastic Beasts 2.

So much fun to be able to draw and design in 2D and then to convert it into a 3Dmodel.

I wish I knew this method when I was working on the film!

A fellow student in college, a few years ago: "Why do we need to learn Maya? I already have some experience with Blender, can't I just use that instead?"
Our 3D teachers: "Because nobody actually uses Blender professionally. If you want to work for any animation/VFX/game studio, you'll need to know either Maya or 3DsMax."

Bonus fact: one of those teachers exclusively teaches Blender these days...

hey in 0:24 how do you rotate strokes without being in EDIT mode?

Is there a way to increase the ink brush size above 10px? Tried to input more, to no effect. Would be awesome for blocking areas out quicker.

I love showing this stuff to people. Like the presentation at VFS, the moment all those curves get inflated to 3D objects... hearing everyone GASP. Priceless.
Have you checked out the openVBD remesh plugin yet? Allows the merging of those shapes to happen inside Blender. And fortunately... it looks like he's just simplified the installation process. Hope you had a safe flight from Vancouver.
