The founder of TSMC recently said that their business model is so globalized that the factory in Taiwan would not function if taken over by mainland China. Without supplies and support from the west there would be no production there. I believe that if Chinese mainland semiconductor manufacturing reached a high level, Taiwan would be in more danger, not less. China needs those TSMC chips as much as we do in the US.

History of Sanctions has always made those sanctions countries more resilient, independent. I remember when US sanctioned India it helped India to stand on it’s own foot.

Even if China took over Tiawan, they would still not have full access to the EUV machines, and other hardware/IP
needed to produce cutting edge chips long term.

It's unconstitutional to strip someone of his/her US citizenship just because s/he works in a certain industry legally. I can't imagine even a conservative Supreme Court will uphold this restriction.

Also, does someone know why TSMC can make 5nm and Intel cant? Like what is the hard part about making the 5nm, isnt it the machine they buy from ASML that makes the chip? What exactly does TSMC do with the machine from ASML
