Extreme Citizen Science

The ExCiteS research group at University College London works with Pygmy hunter-gatherers in the Congo rainforest to develop a smartphone application named Sapelli. Sapelli aims to support any community, even non-literate, to engage in citizen science activities to address local concerns and needs. This approach of Extreme Citizen Science enables Sapelli’s users to decide, with the help of professional scientists, which challenges they wish to address, what data to collect, how best to collect and analyse it, and how to use it (a film from The Crowd & The Cloud).
