First Look: Apple TV (2012)

While it offers fewer native channels than the competition, the Apple TV is an indispensable living-room companion for anyone who's already invested in the iTunes and Apple hardware ecosystems.

The Apple TV allows you to play all your iTunes purchases in the cloud, stream your content from your Mac library or even use airplay to stream the screen of your iPad, iPhone or Mac to it. This allows you to play Apps on the big screen. It's awesome.

apple tv will play on what ever tv you have that it can connect to. if your tv can handle 1080p the apple tv is able to give that quality. Compatibility is only an issue with the file type you try to use with your apple tv, if it plays on your ipad it should play with apple tv assuming you aren't using a player outside of quicktime.

The point is price and the ability to stream content. I have one and I rarely buy anything from itunes unless i really want to see it. For me the break down of the product is like this:
1. $99 is a good price
2. by far the easiest way to get netflix onto your tv
3. music via home share or itunes match is pretty good as a side feature or a main feature if you have a decent audio system hooked up to your TV

I wish I had had my own TV. I would want this for my tv. Though it seems wonderful, apple should add a game store and two controllers for it too.

@Kooleo2000 Just get a used TV, they are super cheap on Craigslist. I got a used Sony 27" for my daughters room for $10. It's not a flat thin one, it's bulky, but the image is crystal clear. We connected a Roku box to it.

So with all the drawbacks and limitations why do you think someone would go with Apple TV as opposed to Roku or one of the Android TV systems?

I love my apple tv c: i needed it for airplay and it works. Plus the youtube subscription integration thing is also a plus :3

Does this work with a droid phone. And can you use this without internet at home

it's mainly for netflix and media on the home network. I have one and the netflix app on it is so much better than the on XBOX and Wii. everything looks neat.

I am looking for something much simpler. I just don't want to keep moving my laptop to the TV room every time I want to watch something on my TV (Hooking my laptop to my TV and just watch movies).. I want to do that wirelessly. Is that possible? VLC wirelessly to my TV.. Or, my Macbook screen wirelessly to my TV. Any ideas?

because it's a bigger pain in the but and using the apple tv for netflix is a great from a usability standpoint. However if your in the US I would go with something that can play amazon instant content. This is with the exception that he talks about being air play is great if you have your ipads and iphones and shit.
