One of the greatest joys of my life has been reading and revisiting the Flashman series. I wrote to GMF and told him so and he responded like a true gentleman. I treasure that letter to this day.

I just re-read "The Cobra" by Brightwell. As a Flashman successor it's (and his others) pretty damn good. Have you guys found anything to follow Flashman?

I've tried a few books some disappointing, some ok.

It's Tom Brown's School *Days* btw (great book in it's own right). Just finished the first F book; racy stuff... interesting how his cynical viewpoint elicits the fact that there were 'true believers' (Sgt. Hudson, e.g.) all about him-- i.e. in manliness, God, and Empire. That the modern viewpoint's squarely his is a little disconcerting!
