DISNEY•PIXAR'S BAO

See "Bao" in theatres on June 15th in front of "Incredibles 2."

In Disney•Pixar’s “Bao,” an aging Chinese mom suffering from empty nest syndrome gets another chance at motherhood when one of her dumplings springs to life as a lively, giggly dumpling boy. Mom excitedly welcomes this new bundle of joy into her life, but Dumpling starts growing up fast, and Mom must come to the bittersweet revelation that nothing stays cute and small forever. This short film from Pixar Animation Studios and director Domee Shi explores the ups and downs of the parent-child relationship through the colorful, rich, and tasty lens of the Chinese immigrant community in Canada. “Bao” opens in theaters on June 15, 2018, in front of “Incredibles 2.”

I’m glad they are sticking with the shorts and not 20 a minute Christmas special. Pixar can make good money on branding alone they don’t need Frozen.

I saw this short film before the showing of Incredible s 2, I was was sobbing like a baby. Many thought of her as disturbing for eating the dumpling boy, but she wanted to keep him little longer. Once she realized what she had done she was mortified and pretty much had given up on life. When he came back, she was so happy, and also realized it was okay for her son to grow and be a fine young man. Having a child coming to age, it is a big deal. Especially if your child is extremely close to you, it's hard to let go. I cried so hard watching this, I was afraid people could hear me, even though I was trying to quiet cry. A blubbering mess I was, my son wanted to go sit somewhere else, lol. Thankfully, Incredibles 2 was awesome and I was able to recover lol. Not sure if I can look at dumplings the same way now.

I see a lot of people not liking this short, or think it is disturbing. To me it is more like a metaphor, she is not actually eating him up, she is wishing she could keep him forever, and is not ready to let him go yet . I think of people saying, " I wish I could put you back in my belly." or, "What a cute little baby, he's so cute I could just eat him up.). Personally, I found it very moving, maybe because I have a child that will soon leave the nest. I want him to go and succeed, but I really miss those day when he was a child. I actually started bawling watching this, tears rolling down full force, trying not to sob out loud. My son couldn't believe I was crying, and unless you have a child ready to leave the nest it's hard to explain.

To anyone who hasn't seen the whole clip the dumpling is actually her depiction of her son which actually looks like a dumpling for whatever reason

I'm not the emotional kind of viewer, but I had to hold my tears at the end of this short. It was the first movie I went watching with my son (3, 5 years old) so I had to act like a model father ;)

Pixar: "Okay but what if... now hear me out... What if... DUMPLINGS had emotions?"

As disturbing as the idea of a dumpling coming to life is, this is pretty adorable. The sound effects are doing it for me. I'we rewatched it probably 70 times ny now.

GUYS, "Bao" is not a dumpling!!! It's actually a chinese dish called baozi, hence the name "bao". It's similar to a dumpling but it's steamed. Search it up, it's really good too.
