It’s worth mentioning that the training program the company used was not in line with the manufacturer’s recommendations, and in that training program they learned to use aggressive rodder

My aunt passed away on that flight. We were living in the Bronx. Her only child- my cousin, was only 3 years old when it happened. The state gave her 1-2 million dollars due to wrongful death. RIP MORENA ❤

3 days before this happened, I left JFK airport on an 8 a.m. American Airlines flight bound to the Carribean Island of St. Martin. When I heard of this tragic news, the first thing I thought was “oh no, another terrorist attacked in NY. Then, two weeks after I came back to New York, I was going to this famous American Diner in Bay Ridge Brooklyn where I used to live. Upon entering the restaurant entrance, I saw bunch of flowers and with a picture of a young Latina woman. My heart breaks when I found out that the young waitress was one of those passengers on that doomed flight bound to the Dominican Republic. I was so sad, I almost did’nt enter the restaurant to have my favorite meal.

11 degrees left then right 3 times put over 203, 000 pounds of stress on the rudder. And the limit was 100, 000

Dying in a plane crash without being in the plane is wild.

I remember getting on a flight 3 weeks after 9/11 and with everything that happened was still fresh on all our minds, you could feel the tension every time we had any type of turbulence during the flight. I imagine it was the same for them, but in this case the absolute worst happened.
Prayers are still with them and their loved ones.

It should also be noted that at the time, this was how most pilots dealt with turbulence, excessive force on the flight controls. In the American Airlines training video, they also suggested excessive force. Not many believed they could destroy their own plane with their inputs. RIP

I can't imagine what the passengers were feeling as they plummeted towards the ground. The terror those poor people felt....RIP

I was on cross Bay Boulevard in Queens when this happened. I actually witnessed first-hand that I couldn't believe it And then after the plane disappeared from sight and you saw the cloud of smoke about 5 minutes later, all the fire trucks rushing up cross Bay boulevard towards far Rockaway.

I was a pharmaceutical rep and picked up those zip codes -far rockaway, belle harbor, in like 2003/2004 and I recall driving by and 1 or 2 of the houses on a densely packed street were gone while neighboring ones unscathed. The randomness of who lived or died on the ground always stuck with me. RIP. Those poor passengers and their families.

American 587 HEAVY cleared for takeoff turning south south-east. November 12th 2001 Improper pilot training by AA was found to be the cause of this accident as AA flight training instructors advised passengers the use of “aggressive rudder” when encountering wake turbulence and the protocol was the main cause of this accident. Additionally, Airbus was found at fault as they had warned operators of the A300/310 programs not to use aggressive rudder inputs as too much strain could cause damage but AA as well as all other operators of the A300 at the time didn’t listen to that guidance until November 12th 2001 😔
