We didn't choose to be a state in 1776. We didn't choose to be a state in 1812. We do not choose to be a state in 2025. It is not funny. It never has been. It saddens me that some Americans can think that we would ever want this. His so-called subsidy is because of the trade deficit -- that Americans are buying more from Canada than Canada is from the States. Well...duh. Your population is ten times our population. Of course you buy more things. Ironically, the big DEFICIT comes from the DISCOUNTED energy that Canada has been supplying the United States for decades. Trump wants Canadian minerals, Canadian water, and the Canadian North West Passage. He wants Canada because we have things he wants and he thinks he can just walk in and take it. VIVE LE CANADA. WE ARE CANADIAN.

Americans do not understand that the relationship with Canada will never be repaired. The fact that this conversation does nothing to debunk the notion of Canada will never be the 51st state is outrageous. We are a very proud sovereign nation and want nothing to do with Trump

As a Canadian I personally do not want Canada to deal with the U.S. any longer. I prefer Canada to look elsewhere for trade partners that are more friendly and reliable then the U.S. Trump will not stop attacking Canada.

I'm Canadian. Stop "making nice" about President Felon's threats to Canada. The US does *not* "subsidize* Canada. It's a mutual trade agreement that HE negotiated in his first term and was very pleased at the time. He is violating this trade agreement, and as our Ambassador to France, Stephane Dion, said this weekend, this sort of threat -- though non-violent -- could still be violating International Law. Canada will not be bullied.

It's as though he sees an educated, financially stable and resource-rich country with advanced social programs and thinks, "If we absorb them, we'll be just like them, but with more stuff."

It's not funny anymore, and I wish the media would stop even entertaining his idiocy by constantly mentioning it. It's not as if Canada is friendless worldwide, but the U.S. is rapidly becoming the most reviled nation on earth.

As a Canadian, it boils my blood that this is an open conversation in your country. This issue is non-negotiable, and the more it's discussed the less we want anything to do with America. I don't think Americans realize the kind of anger and hatred that is brewing up North. To put it bluntly: You people are no longer our allies, we expect your tariffs, and we are rapidly preparing for much worse. We're already moving on, building up our military, our domestic market, and making alliances with China and Europe. Our century-long alliance is on life support, and it's going to be dead by the summer if Americans don't back off.
