The FDA's recent approval of a new drug, Aduhelm, to clear the formation of amyloid plaques in the brain is potentially good news for the six million Americans who suffer from Alzheimer's disease. But the approval process for Aduhelm has stirred controversy. Correspondent Susan Spencer talks with experts about the clinical benefits of this new class of drugs; and with early-onset Alzheimer's patients, including a former neurologist who enrolled in an early trial of Aduhelm.

Excellent piece by Susan Spencer. Greatest quote: “If you don’t take chances, nothing good happens.” Wow.

Very conflicting information about this Anyway, at $56, 000 dollars a year very few people can afford it anyway.

I can’t wait to watch this video in 10-15 years again and say “Wow. Remember when we didn’t have a cure for this?”

The sad, sad part is that yet again, the scientists who actually designed and developed the drug were not given any spotlight. Just interviewing physicians who just give out those drugs to their patients. Oh to be a scientist- do all the hard work but not get any recognition or compensation.

I watched my Mimi die from AD. I cared for her -- along with her three daughters -- at home for about five years. It is the most devastating of heartbreaking diseases. To watch someone slip away each day... further and further. I hope these drugs continue to be studied and released. There is little you can do to assuage fear, hopelessness, depression and anxiety in AD patients other than drug them into unconsciousness. That only makes the whole ordeal even worse. Cherish those few moments of clarity you get.

Life is cruel. It gives so much promise, then it yanks it away. But we fight on. I hope this guy is helped tremendously through medicine and prayer.

$56, 000 per year is too much to pay for a drug not proven to provide any actual clinical benefit to patients; unusual and fast-tracked approval process of aduhelm is presently being investigated by the office of the inspector general

8:05 "they are rare"

expecting Alzheimer patients to tell you how often they have negative side effects sounds pretty reckless, but alright
