CBS News correspondent David Pogue recalled his voyage aboard an OceanGate submersible to visit the wreck of the Titanic.

A video of a reporter expressing concerns for his Titan submarine ride last year has gone viral after the vehicle vanished off the coast of Canada with five people inside on Sunday.

Science writer David Pogue boarded the $1 million submersible for a CBS report published six months ago alongside OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, who is among the five missing passengers on the voyage to tour the wreckage of the Titanic.

5 guys sitting on the floor of a soda can for 1/4 of a Mil ? To go 2 to 3 miles down to look at an old boat that you can see on the internet?

Soo many safety checklists and automatic ways to return to surface.... So safety oriented . Except the material it was made from.

1:09 interesting that with all their safety protocols, In 2022 they had a technician choose to mount a thurster on upside down and this managed to somehow pass ALL inspection checklists.

But David Pogue didn't dive to Titanic, it was scrubbed, and a another dive got lost for a few hours while he was there, he then reported in a way to insinuate he was on the lost one. Show me a video from inside titan looking out the viewport at Titanic. Sure oceangate has videos of Titanic, but show one inside the sub looking at Titanic out the port not a computer screen. Starting to suspect this sub has never previously been to Titanic.

Nobody tells you what to do in an emergency. Even airlines tell you what to do in an emergency and people fly in planes everyday! Smh

On that submersible are people who have lots and lots of money huddled with people who want their money .. my guess is anything can happen!! And now the government is spending the peoples' money to fish out this crazy lot. Isn't life great!

This vessel does not appear to be in the same league with other famous submersibles like Alvin, Aluminaut and Nautile. Most of those were built by major government contractors with government funding and featured military grade controls, communications and life support. This thing appears to have been built on the cheap, with no oversight by any agency with expertise in this area. My guess? I think the pressure vessel probably failed and imploded. If and when they find it, it will probably look like the Thresher or the is to say crushed. Anyone who thinks that deep ocean diving or space travel has become as safe as climbing on a commercial flight is dreaming. The folks in this mini-sub might just as well be on the moon.

I cant imagine the nightmare - though they mustve thought about it before going. Still, you never think its going to happen to you. Even if theyre found, how do they get them to the surface? One would think, losing communication, would be a primary concern (thus have redundancies in that dept). There should be at least 2, if not 3 different radio sets. A 15k - 20k foot emergency steel cable also seems like a good idea, if possible. Sure, it would limit where people can go, but you also would guarantee that if something went seriously wrong, the ship could always pull the sub back up. I guess thats why they make them sign all those legal waivers before going down. Meanwhile, they have handheld controllers that are useless.

It can't of ever have gone to the Titanic. It imploded because it couldn't withstand the pressure as it was put together with "off the shelf parts". So if it went there in the first place it would have imploded before.
