Syria has long served as a key operational base for Russia’s military projection in the Middle East. The fall of the Assad regime — Moscow’s principal ally in the region — has presented Russia with new challenges, prompting a need to reassess and adapt both its military presence and commercial influence in the country. This event aims to explore the ambitions of Russia’s foreign policy in the Middle East and North Africa, and to examine the strategic direction Moscow has taken in response to the shifting political landscape in Syria.
