Daryle is performing live and doing a Johnny Paycheck cover. I originally did this reaction very early in the channel and it's part of my reupload series, so you might notice some differences between then and now. :-)

On the studio version of this the resutatatin was done by Johnny Paycheck from his hospital bed. The cool thing about this song is Darryl always closed his shows with this song. Listening to the words the last thing he ever sang. It reminds me of Free Bird

another amazing song ive never heard. Its great we have someone that can introduce all this older music to the people that don't know it.

Daryle was a Georgia boy. I'm proud he was from my State. Arguably the best traditional Country singer of his generation, we lost him WAY TOO SOON! If his health hadn't failed him, we would still be listening to those wonderful baritone inflections we all admire him for. He was a treasure.

Miss 'Ole Daryle! That's our buddy, Phil Frye, on bass guitar.

that line "we give our all to country music, and soon we'll give our life" really hits extra hard after we lost both him and Johnny.

I think Daryle was a great, overlooked country singer, but this is Johnny Paycheck's song.

Johnny wrote it, sung it good, but Daryl owned it. Best ever.

I saw him do this on -larrys country diner-like that one btr. Guess cause they didnt play around as much? Still a good sad song. ..dan-5/02/22 ps.5/03/22-i THINK it was larrys country diner? I may be wrong on that. But he did do the show with Rhonda Vincent. Where they sang some great songs. .

George Strait did this song, too, which is how I first heard it.

Still preferred Johnny's version.

Hello again, good cover but I definitely prefer the Paycheck original. I believe it to be about growing old and irrelevant and somewhat forgotten. Now I do believe it could have been during Ga./Auburn rivalry week. Ga. vs. Auburn is one of the oldest rivalries in the country and a very big deal in Ga. and Alabama.

I never told anyone this. In 1997 I took a huge dump in a Macy’s and there was no toilet paper so I had to drive home (45 minutes) to wipe.
