The Worst (And BEST!) Election Takes I've Seen So Far

I don't know if this is a great idea to be doing but I feel like there's a lot of sense-making going on and I want to orient it correctly. Also, I'll say, Twitter isn't just a bastion of weirdo rightwing takes, it's a bastion of weirdo takes. The algorithmic aspect has done the exact thing you might imagine with a powerful tool under a careless leader, which is that it does a great job of surfacing the worst takes.

I just want to have a tough time voting. I want to look at the top two candidates and say, "This is a difficult choice. They're both so good. ".

its worth noting "inflation decling" doesnt mean prices reducing. it can go from 10% all the way down to 1%... it would have to be negative inflation to go *down*

Eliminating the electoral college isn’t important because it will change results, it’s important because it will change strategy.

“I’m me, im not a political scientist”

Well, Hank, i am a political scientist.

Thank you for making this video because i feel too insane to make it.

Political scientists have established that education is the most significant factor in how people vote. Maybe you don’t want to chalk it up to smart vs stupid but I would argue that being better educated makes you much more likely to question when you hear something outrageous (e.g., “they’re eating cats & dogs, ” “your son is getting a sex change at school”). Educated people will go look it up. This equals less ignorance and more properly informed. That equals millions of people who don’t think tariffs are a bill we hand to other countries, which they pay, putting money in our pockets.

The five o clock shadow and the delivery is very inspiring.

15:51 this is actually close to an even better point that many people vote for the opposite party when the country isn’t doing well, but the country is always doing poorly for the working class so control of government switches back and forth like a metronome.

Not to be confused with partisan voters, who see the country is bad and always blame the same party. But the country doing poorly under their party’s leadership may create enough cognitive dissonance for them to stay home.

This perspective also explains two things
1) why there’s a partisan backlash in the next midterm regardless of how well the government functioned
2) why these backlashes occur even if go-to fundamentals (like GDP, stock market) look good.

Thank you. I'm LGBTQ and very scared about this election results, and this helped me rationalize and reexamine a lot of the results. I agree - one thing I'm very scared/disappointed of is that a lot of bad faith people will use this as validation.

I still don't understand why some people think Felon is exceptional. He's just rich. Was born rich. His daddy gave him a lot of money and opportunities. He bought companies that were producing okay/good things. And that's about it.

Its not “because people are stupid” its “because people are uneducated”

Theres a difference and it’s intentional and exploitable.

Asking about election interference by a foreign adversary isn't the "worst take" of the election. It's a legitimate question. Why should we not question these things?

They’ve gotta give up on the neoliberal business-first thing trying to get republicans to switch teams. They need a national platform that everyone runs on at all levels, and then when they win they have a plan and can actually do things for individual people instead of trickle down CHIPS Act and other things that end up just looking like giveaways to business.

1. Raise the minimum wage and index it to inflation so we don’t have to do this over and over
2. Medicare for all. Old people LOVE the free government healthcare they’ve voted for themselves. Let everyone else have a chance at that.
3. Paid leave. Parental leave, sick leave, etc, and for hourly/gig workers too.

And there’s a bunch of others like tuition free community college, and a student debt plan. It the main point is there needs to be a platform. They need to act like a party, with policy, and it needs to be left of center, not republican-lite.

I've seen a lot of strange takes and bad headlines (even from reputable sources!) following the election and have had trouble coming to terms with it through the noise. It's incredibly reassuring to see these videos where you seem to be going through a similar process and are doing so in a productive way.

19:00 yeah. I have two big takeaways. 1) several things related to education and information are indeed toxic and need radical change. 2) dems need to stop fighting populism with establishment. The people want populism. This has been *abundantly clear* since early 2016. I'm REALLY not a populist. But let's give them someone like Bernie, who knows how to hit all the major populist talking points while mitigating the harm that absolutely comes with populism.

On the electoral college, wouldn’t that just be the heavily populated cities dictating everything instead of a few swing states?

Now that the initial wave of loss and sadness is over, I’m now more angry that I hav to protest and fight for my rights harder than I had to before and I’m not even a legal adult yet.

I really appreciate your content, it's refreshing, you're not afraid to question your biases in fact you force yourself to do it and I think that's important, it's not the singular most important thing, but your takes are always very refreshing. Idk. I just hope you don't delete this video because I do think it's important.
You're doing your job of educating people really well, and I love that. So much love for all that you do.
