Recording to tape on a Fostex 4-track!

How I recorded my song "Apt 6" completely on a 4-track tape recorder.

I know this is an old video but I have a couple questions about 4 tracks. Can all the tracks be recorded on one like you show here? Also I was wondering if you hear the other tracks during recording?

Do you use a pick when playing bass? I've never gotten such a lively sound and tone from a DI bass myself

How are you just using 1 track and recording 5 things? That makes no sense.
