0:46 - I absolutely love her simple and plain "yes". She was referring about something so old and so obvious that she barely needed to explain further.

What I love about this clip -- and who knows whether this actual exchange ever really occurred, but it doesn't matter -- is that it so clearly shows the notion of "duty" and "calling" under which Elizabeth was brought up, and which she brought to the throne! The pressure she must have felt as a 25-year-old, with TWO former, both beloved, queens looking over her shoulder, Queen Mary (of WWI) and her mother Queen Elizabeth (of WWII) is simply unfathomable!

Elizabeth II had this in commen with Elizabeth I and Victoria, three young women becoming Queen in a world where alot was stacked up against them and they came out as three of the greatest monarchs in British history. Talk about being a role model.

1:52 - 2:15 (queen Mary’s Speech) when I first watched it, this part gave me chills. History goes back very far but to view and know it from the queens point of view/ or any other royal members point of view for them our school and country history is their family history, it’s real! And that is what makes it Surreal!!

We have been programmed to learn history and know what happened in the past when it comes to all the dates, the royal families, bloodlines, kings and queens, battles and wars. Today a lot of people will argue how the English traditions and having a royal family is old fashioned and almost a fairy tale, but we forget to sink in this history and realise that it really really REALLY was real, it did happen! Because we never seen it (as it is history) we overlook the importance of it all and how it shaped our world over the centuries.

I don’t think I am explaining my words properly here but honestly loved this part.

I actually just did a paper on this. I wrote two things that keep a monarch in power is their family line and their divine appointment from God. No one could oppose them because to do so would question God's messengers. And in the case of the British royal family, it is fascinating that their family line can be traced back 1, 000 years.

Now whether this can be interpreted as the Divine Will of God, or just the millenia-long system for keeping power in the family is really down to your beliefs.

Queen Mary perfectly explains the monarchy. This is why I believe in the power of the monarchy. Well spoken Queen Mary.
Whoever the writer's are you guy's did a great job in this scene.

As an American, I naturally rebel against the idea of a divine right monarch. Yet Queen Mary described it so eloquently and beautifully that I found myself momentarily thinking, "Oh, that makes sense." Of course, I snap back again when I recall how it played out in practice, but the concept was interesting.

Now that we are on King Charles, I really don't think he can ever truly understand the inter family sacrifices that were made just to make sure the English monarchy remained even as a constitutional monarchy. There's a time when all the monarchies were all Victoria's off springs or married into other power dynamics.

Does Charles or even William understand that George v had to literally put his best friend and his first cousin in a literal firing squad? The government of England was actually going to help the Romanovs (I may be spelling that wrong), but george literally turned the advice and consent back on them to rescind the invitation.

I'm not trying to draw criticism against Charles or even William, but they're not humble like George vi was or even elizabeth II. If the monarchy is going to survive, it really needs to understand its history strengths and faults and learn to stay the course, and I just wish I had confidence in Charles

People need to understand their history. It’s not that Phillip wasn’t related to Queen Victoria. That’s not significant. By the time of the first world war, half the monarchies of Europe had Queen Victoria‘s blood. It was the fact that at this point, the house of Windsor has just been established. They were established in opposition to the first world war because the British royal family was very very German. Queen Mary is German to the core actually. If you notice what’s going on here it’s that she’s basically disavowing her German heritage to establish herself as British and in line with the house of Windsor even though she has absolutely no blood relation to for example Alfred the great. The goal of the British royal family at this point in history was to make themselves as British as possible even though most of them had more German blood than British. That’s why for example that Queen Elizabeth‘s mother was one of the Scottish aristocrats, they distinctly did not allow the king to marry somebody of foreign dissent because they wanted the royal family to have more British blood. Phillip being related Queen Victoria doesn’t matter here. Obviously he is. It’s the fact that he’s not British.

Queen Mary saw the future - the monarchy in Greece went and in Denmark, Queen Margrethe just abdicated

The monarchy is the best form of government, assuming the monarchy has real form of power.

William the Conquerer arguably committed genocide according to some historians' analysis of "the Harrowing of the North". Hardly someone I would point to as an example of "nobility and duty" (understanding these terms in the sense of high moral principles and duty of care for ordinary people).
