Scientific Tuesdays - Fireproof Balloons

In this episode of Scientific Tuesday we take some balloons and make them fire proof. This works because the water will act as a heat sink for the flame and distribute it throughout the water, this prevents the rubber from bursting.

@tofwaprme Trust me, we don't just do Scientific Tuesday videos. If you look at our channel you will see plenty of other content to check out. The thing is that Sci Tues is a weekly show whereas the other hacks are kind of random. There are some coming though so I hope you stick around to check them out! Thanks for watching, anyways.

@yourboycal you nailed it exactly. Not everyone knows this stuff even as common sense as it may seem to some. I want to build a collection ranging from VERY BASIC experiments to EXTREMELY ADVANCED. Each week will vary in difficulty and excitement.

that was pretty cool, i don't know why people are dissing. the whole idea that the water is absorbing all the heat from the flame, while the balloon's latex is left intact, and unharmed, is pretty awesome. This is science, it is thermodynamics in practice.

If you slow it way down you can see the balloon kind of disintegrate. That is of course because my camera is too slow to capture what is really going on, but still cool.

THE RED ONE...It hung there for like a mili (<-right spelling???) second and then just fell. Total awsomness.

@Foxrider3004 the rubber melts you know Right? The Ballon had plenty of space for air so if your theory is right then we would see it expand first.

I think this is the most useful video you have made.

I love how when a water balloon explodes, it looks like the balloon disappears, and the water floats for a second.

That was pretty cool :D, I wonder how it would last, leaving the flame under the balloon without making a hole?

How fast does a balloon pop? (Just wondering cause even in slow motion it looked like the rubber disappeared)

The red ballon in Test #2 was my favorite. You could actually see the water still in the shape of the balloon for a second. :3

Thanks! Just wanted to pop some balloons and work some kind of science into it! Win win I suppose. For me at least.

the water look so shocked! "WHERE DID MY BALLOON HOUSE GO OH NO I AM

Probably not. The water/balloon combination would likely distribute that heat back to the outside environment if the only heat source was that lighter.

try doing that with a blowtorch or a hot plate

Oh yeah! Slappin my balloon against my nozzle is what I do best!
