Flat skates for ramps, heels for tricks and any time you don't want to fall backwards.

"Does that make sense to you? I think it makes sense to me." You're adorable dude. The wa you talk, the pacing and tone, made me smile.

I learned how to roller skate on flat roller skates, and it was way harder to learn to skate. I’m a very clumsy person, so I fell really hard many times, and I messed up my lower back. (It didn’t stop me from continuing though) When I finally decided to switch over to a heeled roller skate (I was still a beginner), I found that it was way easier to learn tricks, and to keep my balance.

This is so interesting... Your video is the only source of information I found on the internet about this topic. Thank you! Buying skates as a gift so I wanted to make sure I make the right choice.

"for beginners, if you are scared of falling backwards".... Well, I wasn't before I watched this video 😶

I started skating last year and have always worn a heeled boot, I had some basic no-name skates and then a pair of Moxi Beach Bunnies. I loovvee my beach bunnies for cruising and leisure skating, but I got super into the skate park and wanted something better suited for the park. I actually only got a flat skate because the Chaya Kismet skates were the only semi-affordable full park set up out of the box (grind blocks and park wheels can be really expensive). It actually wasn't too hard for me to adjust to the flat skates because I already knew about falling backward so I just focused on leaning forward, and now I'm OBSESSED. I dropped in with my flat skates for the first time yesterday and they're SO MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE. I also feel way more in control when I'm jumping and landing so I can get way more air. If you love the skate park I highly recommend a flat skate!

I use them all - artistic skate, speed skates, and one I made from my last pair of shoes with no extra stability. The shoe skates did take some getting used to due to the softer sole, but you can find many "tennis" shoes with a harder sole that you can use as well. I love all 3 styles, indoor skating and outdoor, for all types of skating. However, I've been skating for 43 years, so definitely NOT a "new" skater! LOL Once you get used to one style, while the mechanics are slightly different as far as balance and such, it's not really that difficult to go from one style to another. I've been known to switch which the skates I use in a single session at the rink and often bring them all when we go.

I skate with the Chaya Jump skates and I fell backwards when I first changed from my raised heel skate to the Jumps and it hurt like heck but that's cuz I'm a garbage skater . My feet feel more comfortable in the flat skate to the raised heel boot though and the Jumps are fantastic I'm obsessed

Thank you for making this! It’s very difficult to find this information for some reason.

Helpful information man, thank you. I bought some flat skates recently to get back into skating (mainly because I wanted the better ankle supports) and this gave me the confidence that I made the right choice.

I was struggling with high heel skates and so I switched to a derby style skate and I feel so much more in control and balanced. So weird right?!

Great topic! I've skated for years in both. I like the flexibility in my ankle when in a 'shoe'. I feel super light and agile in them, as if floating 👍 The Chaya Emerald is my best ever. Looks gorgeous and such great value ♥️

With this video I feel so much better now. I got plain shoes because they were the only ones left, even though I wanted ones with heels. Every video I saw said skates with heels were better because of the balance but they didn’t say much apart from that. I’m a beginner, though I’ve been in a rink before, so I’m not afraid of falling back. THANKS 💚

went skating after 37 years tonight, way back then I used flat and the rental ones tonight were heeled making it harder as it seemed (and slower as you said!).. I'm going to get a new pair and go more often now, I'll be buying flat type again--thank you for the breakdown and difference between them!!! :)
