- Sitting proudly in the heart of the Mid Ulster countryside is Ardtara. Built in 1895 by Harry Clark, out of the success of the family's linen mill. Ardtara is a glorious Victorian country house, set amidst beautiful wooded gardens. Harry was a restless adventurer, coerced into joining his family's linen business, with promises of a global trade position and the freedom to pursue huge expansions. Clarks was already 160 years old at the time. The oldest of its kind in Ireland and was famous for producing fine linens from flax through the ancient process of beetling. Originally a romantic and lively family home, Ardtara provided a welcome respite from Harry's busy working life in the linen mills. Having been lovingly restored and repaired in the 1990s, prior to its opening as a luxurious country hotel, the house is teeming with many original features, befitting it's listed status. Today Ardtara still provides a welcome respite from the bustle and stress of modern life. Offering old world charm with all the convenience expected of the 21st century.
