That house should be red tagged how are they allowed to stay there?

Sucks, but I can't blame the power company. I would NOT want to get sued for wildfires caused by power lines.

I don’t understand these people. Build a house on land that is well known to be shifting for decades and then expect the government to fix it ?🤷🏼‍♀️

The homes in Ranchos Palos Verdes are like building sandcastles on the beach, the high tide is approaching and there is nothing that will stop the tide.

a new foundation? I don't think so...I would say those homes are totaled.

In this report he states that the soil is moving about 150 feet below the surface. I just looked at a very recent preliminary geology report from bore hole tests and soil movement monitors that have been in place since the slide accelerated. There are two layers of bentonite volcanic clay deposits under the ground here... One about 150 feet, and another at 300 feet. There is movement on top of both layers of bentonite, and the entire peninsula is moving on top of the bottom layer. The toe of the slide is several hundred yards offshore, and pressure from the hillside is forcing up slide material and displacing sea water along this entire several hundred yards. The ocean waves break up the toe and wash out material, and more slide is moving in to replace it as it washes out. This report indicates that the areas moving here involve many times more tonnage of soil and rock in motion than had previously been thought, like 64 times greater volume of material covering an area 16 times larger than previously thought.

I don’t think any contractor with touch it with a 10 foot pole. What if something goes wrong the contractor would get sued

Sad for the elderly residents who have to deal with this in their old age

Of course building your home on the well known, hazard prone California coast, without insurance and without the means to rebuild after the inevitable catastrophic event.
Genius!!!

Rancho Palos Verdes has been sliding forever. Anyone who lives there know exactly what is happening. "I'm shocked, shocked PV is sliding!"

The woman wants to rebuild and is looking for some sort of financial windfall to land in her lap. Typical mentality for people in this area. Building a home in such precarious geography to begin with is something that needs intense reflection.

This has been going on for a very, very long time. Time to move elsewhere to stable land. This hasn't been stable land for over sixty years. #UNREPAIRABLE

The result of denial, this is not something that happened overnight folks. If you don’t live there, this has been the problem since the get-go and they just been in denial about it.

4Ft A MONTH? Why would people still be in those structures? No different than a coming fire… just slower eventualities.

So... homes that should not have ever been built there by a developer... land sold and developed knowing that the damage would happen down the road as the "owners problem". Insurance won't cover them, and would have never since being built - because its a known problem and life savings destroyed. Nice.

It's more like the whole area will be condemned ...
