I love Luca Turilli and everything he has done for Symphonic metal, but can I relate a very weird and surreal story?

I first heard of Rhapsody in 2002 when I was 16. I was a hardcore thrash metal head, but this was the time when the first Lord of the Rings was the greatest film release ever and then I heard "Dawn of Victory" and my god...it changed my life for two years. There were three people in my entire town that knew what "Rhapsody" was and I set aside all thrash metal and went on an epic symphonic metal quest and at that time in America....there was none of either had to special order cds from random people on ebay or go to your local cd store and try to explain to the idiot behind the counter what you wanted. I had to pull the dudes teeth out just to get in Iron Maidens Rock in Rio DVD when it came out.

Anyways, my 4 friends and I that loved Rhapsody obsessed over all of the songs, all of the albums we couldnt get...every now and then someone would show up with an album or songs that no one else ever heard and it was the coolest thing ever....I was the first person in my entire town to ge t"Rain of A thousand Flames" now there are 95 thousand bands that try to sound like 1999 Rhapsody and it pisses me off a bit. Mainly because all of their symphonic stuff is studio programed, non of the singers sound like fabiio lione, and I havent played ina band in 5 years but im still a better guitarist then all of them.

Anyways, I just fell down the rabbit hole of member berry shit.

Weirdest part of my life. I spent so much of my life worshiping Luca and Rhapsody.

They show up in Pittsburgh in 2016 playing with Primal Fear. Pittsburgh is a very sad metal town now and there were maybe 50 people in the crowd for both bands. I stand front and center to get my first and maybe only glimpse of Luca, lets face it, america isnt treating the band good. That 14 year old me is losing his shit. One of my idols is going to be performing an entire set right in front of me and there are like 40 people left in the crowd. I loved that there was no one around to challenge me, but inside I wept that this fuckin champion of power metal was getting ZERO recongntion.

Well, they came out strong and played a blistering 90 minute set that included almost everything I ever wanted to hear of the Rhapsody songs and Luca was a god damn beast, what a showman, 40 people in the crowd and he acted like he was playing to 50, 000. You have to respect that. I stood there front and center, high fived everyone in the band and enjoyed the hell out of the almost personal concert to me, but when I went home that night...on the way to my car I ran into Alex and Tom from Primal Fear who were coming back from Primanti Brothers....we talked for a bit, I asked them if they will come back to Pittsburgh and Alex said, yeah, if you bring 50 friends.

Moral of the story, get your shit together America. This is fantastic music that needs some serious respect. In no part of this world should Luca Turilli be playing to 40 people. Ever.
