That's the most METAL thing I've ever heard! Respect!

In space, it's all about speed. The probe that went to Pluto cruised at 9, 000 miles per hour, and accelerated at times to 51, 000 mph. It stll took 15 years to get there. To get to Alpha Centauri it wll take centuries.

Wow! I haven't heard much from the R&D department in so long it's good to know they're still at it😅

How fast is it. Cause we could wait a life time to get results ???

Ok, guys, let’s all remember that the creator of this engine is perfectly healthy both physically and mentally.

How sure are they that the mineral composition in those metals and rocks will work in our spacecraft? Hmmm, stuck in space, lol.

So, that metal rich asteroid is basically a huge fuel source.

Dose that mean mined gold would be fuel not returned to earth? 😮😮😮😮

This short has hug conceptual mistakes, and is almost wrong. The AEPS (Advanced Electric Propulsion System) doesn't use "metals" as fuel! A "fuel" is the main source of energy, by burning it with a comburent like liquid oxygen, but a metal doesn't burn: it is only the propellent, the mass kicked out from the AEPS. The source of electric energy that can accelerate the metal ions is photovoltaic or nuclear (like in the Voyagers 1 a 2 "interstellar ships"). That energy is used to ionize the metal atoms, to accelerate it and to restore its electric neutrality before to be ejected. May be we can use metals as propellents, but actually NASA is using Xe, an inert monoatomic gas liquified for several reasons: it doesn't react chemically with its container, it is easy to ionize, it is very dense and occupies small volumes and needs less refrigeration to be stored. So: metals are not fuel, just propellents but needing an external energy source.

So is the idea of other et mining or planet for gold for fuel? I'm not saying it happened, but this now opens the door for that, to maybe be reexamined😮😅

😱During operation, but even more so in the event of an accident, it pollutes everything in the surrounding area.😢

We should all be able to have this Earth!! For our vehicles!!! 12 pack of bud cans for your fuel that night for you and then your truck the next day!!!! Just say'n 😊😮😅😂

It's nothing new, nor the best. Other ground breaking are being breaking our dependency on traditional fuel limitations and allowing us to get quickly to Mars for more than a half century. We have more than one and the best two are supporting each other.

Where in space is aluminum going to be found? I thought it was man-made

Yes take all the resources like we have from earth
