Grading The Carolina Panthers 2023 Free Agency

The Carolina Panthers are taking a short hiatus away from their Pro Day Tour as they, along with the rest of the NFL take part in NFL Owners Meetings at the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix. The Panthers made their intentions known that they're all-in on a QB when they traded up to No. 1 a few weeks ago. The Panthers have followed that move by building a roster around their young rookie QB. How does the Panthers free agency rank compared to the rest of the NFC South? Football Outsiders released their free agency grades on Monday. Julian Council reacts to what they believe is a strong free agency period for Carolina.

I would say our WR room is now at league average or a little lower...but definitely not bottom of the league. If Terrace takes a step forward it will be even better. And I expect the Panthers to use a pick this draft and get another WR, more competition for the starter spots the better. Also, Sanders and Hurst are huge upgrades at their respective positions and both are pass catchers.

Most important position of need yet to be addressed. Quality pass rushing edge opposite Burns. I'd take any of the good vets. Houston and Floyd are my preference. They could be more situational guy and cheaper because their age. Good mentors to Brian burns who's still only 24 and maybe a rookie. We'll see though.

Blue Horseshoe loves Anacott Steel; Frank Reich loves Anthony Richardson. Not that concerned about accuracy. Scary. Of course, I'm just an ignorant fan who has been listening to the chatter. But Richardson would be a BOLD move against conventional wisdom. If it was the right move, Reich would be a true genius; if he was a bustout, Reich would definitely be looking for a new home, and we'd be back to chaos. Being just a simple guy, accuracy in a QB is everything to me. So I, who have never seen Richardson take a single snap, am VERY CONCERNED about accuracy. But the Panthers brought in Reich for his expertise and coaching ability (and never even gave me a look). I sure hope his QB savvy is all we believe it to be. The Panther "control the draft" and dämn sure better get this right.
