Multiplatinum-selling artist Isaac Hayes, dubbed “Black Moses” during the height of his popularity, revolutionized soul music, leading it out of the era of the three-minute single into a new area—the orchestrated concept album with (very) extended cuts.

Hayes began his career as a pianist and staff writer for Stax Records, and, alongside songwriting partner David Porter, wrote some of the biggest hits of the 1960’s, including “Soul Man” and “Hold On! I’m Comin’” for Sam & Dave.

Expanding his repertoire, Hayes penned the iconic soundtrack for 1971’s Shaft. The album became Hayes’s fourth consecutive platinum LP and the “Theme from Shaft” earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Though often known for his larger than life persona, Hayes’ musical accomplishments – which laid the groundwork for disco and rap – established him as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

I won't never in my life underestimate a soundtrack composed, arranged and produced by "The Black Moses"... I initally tought that "Shaft" was his only masterpiece in the score field, however, "Three Tough Guys" and "Truck Turner" impressed me, even more than my first time listen to Shaft. Without doubt Isaac Hayes was one of the GOATs in the music history. The only problem with these soundtracks is that are not longer that we want. Love for this jamm!!

My all time favorite recording of hi hat cymbals on a record. Just ridiculously hot and waaaayyyy up front in the mix, driving the entire damn record along.

First bought this back in '75 and it still withstands the test of time, great LP. Issac was an underrated talent for awhile, then he enjoyed tremendous success before getting lazy in the latter part of his career. Miss ya, brother.

Original 1974 review : Cash Box (1974/06/29 p.18) ISAAC HAYES (Enterprise 9104) Title Theme (2:32) (Incense, BM I - I. Hayes)The "Black Moses" does it again with a movie theme, this time from the "Tough Guys" film and, by no surprise, much of that "Shaft" magic is there, only this time just that much funkier (if you can believe that's possible). Production is excellent and the music and vocals blend in Isaac's usual highly sensual manner. Now that's what hits are all about. This one is definitely there. Flip: no info. available.

I've always wondered: If the movie is called "THREE Tough Guys, " why is the title song "TWO Tough Guys"?

A shame that shitty Tarantino flick is associated with this, for me this'll always be the theme to Exit The Dragon, Enter The Tiger.
