Care Under Fire | Combat Medic Essentials

The first phase of Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) is Care Under Fire (CUF). Care Under Fire is medical attention provided by the first responder or combatant to arrive at the scene of injury during an in-progress firefight.

Typically, in a CUF situation, available medical equipment is limited to that carried by the casualty in his or her individual first-aid kit (IFAK) or by the medical provider in his or her aid bag.

Generally, we don’t perform airway management in Care Under Fire. This isn’t field-hospital trauma care you’re delivering. However, we can still do a sloppy A (from the M.A.R.C.H. algorithm) as we roll our casualty onto his stomach.

Rolling him onto his stomach helps prevent the casualty’s tongue or blood from suffocating him.

P.S. I didn’t think I’d have to explain this, but “Doc” is a term used for military medics, at least for American ones. No, I don’t have a PhD. I do however have the knowledge and skill set to keep you from bleeding out in combat.

If the first man goes down going in a building find another entrance. This was one of the lessons from Fallujah. In the early stages of the battle a lot of casualties were taken when first dude gets hit and drops, 2nd dude attempts to go over the body and has to break his line of sight to not step on his buddy and he gets hit. In later stages of someone got hit going through the door Marines would blow another entrance through a wall. By the end of the battle they would just avoid front doors in general.

In the army they teach us too apply self aid and medics teach us too only treat a wounded soldier or warrior when the threat is eliminated. There is exceptions like a fight lasting very long but if you take your focus off of those trying too kill you then you help them gain the advantage of less people fighting
