Why Should we Strive to be First? | Guneez Ibrahim | TEDxUTAustin

If you have ever taken a psychology class, you might be familiar with the famous Boba doll experiments that demonstrated the power of observational learning. Watch Guneez as she turns this experiment on its head in her powerful and inspiring speech about representation and why it matters. She takes us through her life as a Pakistani immigrant living in Louisiana and the ups and downs of her campaign for Student Body President at UT Austin. Leaving the audience with goosebumps, she pushes us to think beyond representation as a checkbox for a diversity quota but rather a blueprint for the next person who will stand where we once stood.

This is awesome Guneez. Thank you for being an example to everyone out there who feels unheard and alone. You are truly inspiring.

So proud to see her representing our university after all the racism and hate she and Hannah received during their campaign. Funny how she’s the one who got to speak on such an elevated platform while our class president barely got applause at graduation.
