For me this song reflected me and a lot of kids and their lives. The first part most especially I could relate to
"There was a time when I was alone, nowhere to go and no place to call home."
I lived with my mom and my two younger sisters and I felt like my mom hated me. She would ignore me, make me feel like I wasn't even her daughter and I can't remember when she wasn't mad at me. She would constantly kick me out from 13-16 years old and I would sit outside on the apartment steps crying in the cold thinking that I didn't truly have a home.
"My only friend was the man in the moon and even sometimes he would go away too."
While I was sitting outside I would look at the sky and think that I should be glad that I wasn't going through worse like some other people in the world, which would kinda be like the sky being my friend and making me a little happier, but some days when I'm kicked out I'd just feel dread and I'd feel so drained that I couldn't even lift my head to look at the sky because I was just to sad to think about anything else, that reminded me of my "friend" or the sky going away.

This song has a lot of different interpretations for everyone but maybe other people felt this way too.
