RSA Blind Spot Awareness

Показать описание
Due to their size and design, a truck has significant blind spots that present a danger to vulnerable road-users including cyclists. The aim of this video is to highlight the ‘blind spot’ areas around trucks to cyclists and truck drivers and to remind road-users that if you can’t see the driver, the driver can’t see you. Thanks to Waterford Cycle Centre for their support in making this video.”

Many trucks are designed to with safety features to cater for this type of 'blind-spot' and it's beyond belief that other trucks don't have to comply with the same safety design standards... This blind-spot doesn't only apply to cyclists. It applies to motorbikes in a similar position, sign-posts, curbs and pedestrians. There is very little a truck driver can do about the poor safety design features of a truck as they are driving them but inevitably and far too often it is the truck driver who has to bear the responsibility of 'human-error' when things go wrong while driving the truck.
The RSA should focus less on making the public aware of design flaws and work more with the DTTAS on making already available safety design features compulsory for large vehicles.

a fellow lorry driver commented this on a facebook post where a cyclist was in left hand turning lane and carried on straight ahead. before someone says its always the drivers fault keep in mind
Lorry driver = sits 6 different exams, has to do 35 hours classroom work a year to hold a CPC licence, records all his date on a digital tachograph, and is in charge of a 40+ ton machine.

Cyclist - walks into Halfords, spends a couple of quid on a bike, and some spandex.

Doesn't sit any form of test.
But buys a camera instead of a Highway Code book.

Case closed your honour...

Fake. I understand that you want to raise awareness. And that's fine. Blind spots do exist.
But please take a look at your own video before publishing it.

Fake video.
The mirror below, at the start, sees the end of the trailer.
And at 00:18, when you see the line between the two points, many cyclists are inside so they cannot be in blind point.
The mirror above is not set correctly. It is too close towards the cab, so it loses sight outwards. Do you want to see the cab. And also in this wrong position, it sees beyond the end of the trailer.
So it's not possible that it doesn't see those cyclists, even this show it's a fake.

LOLOL Dude, such a BS, So from the top down mirror, you can actually see the crack on the ground and the white patch on the ground, which is beyond where the cyclist was standing, and you can see the side of the trailer, from the wide angle mirror, (which was not correctly adjusted anyways as it showed too much of the side of the cab, it needs to point more out and down). and even the top down mirror were not adjusted properly either, it's showing way too much of the side of the ccab, what's the point of looking at your cab/

What you did was, take the video in the cca, then ask the ccyclists to walk in there

Come on, people are not that gullible.
