I don't know if anyone else has talked about this, but the word Adonalsium is actually an anagram for "a mind a soul".

In my mind Wit almost certainly turned down a shard because he understood it's limitations. Perhaps better than the others, and valued his freedom above raw power. In many ways he actually has much more power than the vessels. He isn't tied to one world, he isn't tied to one line of action based on one emotion and he can collect minor powers from all of the shards. Just look at all the vessels that are already dead (Tanavast, Ati, Leras, Rayse, Uli Da and the 2 on elantris) and Wit is still around getting stronger (apart from that last chapter). I think he chose wisely.

Hoid is honestly the most intriguing character in the entire cosmere tbh, dude has basically been apart of everything and we barely have any answers for anything about him. Can't wait for DragonSteel tbh, we'll get most of our answers hopefully in that book.

SPOILERS FOR WAY OF KINGS





There is a conversation between Hoid and Dalinar in the Way of Kings that interests me a lot. Hoid asks Dalinar if he knows the word Adonalsium and says, "I wonder If you could do that to a man. Pull him apart emotion by emotion and piece it back together to create something new."
I couldn't help think maybe Hoid wants to form the Adonalsium back together again by combining all the shards

Adonalsium is kind of a theme for me. They took the monastic view of God which is adonalisum and made different versions of that view via the shattering, and so they kind of made it into a polytheist version of divinity, where there are different characteristics and avatars of God. Its seems like a conversation on religion within the text

One thing to note is that all investiture back then was of Adonalsium. I think it is possible that adonalism was just investiture (all the investiture in the Cosmere) that then gained consiousness. A similar thing can happen to Shards if the power is simply left alone. Don't see why that couldn't have happened to Adonalsium.

It also begs the question as to what its Intent looked like. Shards and combination of Shards have Intent, so I believe Adonalsium must have had one too that is a sum total of the Intent of all the Shards. Its power (the power of all Shards) is called the power(s) of creation. But that doesn't seem to be its Intent.

Adonalsium seems to be a type of Demiurge, a creator god "employed" by a greater power (in the Cosmere's case, the God Beyond) to create the physical universe. If true, Adonalsium ia thus seperate from the more transcend God Beyond, and thus more bound to time and space, as the Shards like Odium are.
