This is a video of our hike from Kyles Landing to the Eye of the Needle on the Indian Creek trail. Our first time hiking this trail. There was a cave there but it is closed. If I missed anything on the way please post in the comments. Great hike but not for those who don't like to climb or get to physical while hiking. By far our favorite hike in the upper Buffalo River area. I hope you all enjoy the video. Thank you for watching. I've seen other videos and one said that most people who have hiked this trail once never go again. I am going again!

in 1984, I had just completed a course on rappelling as a member of the ROTC at HSU and took a trip up there. we hiked in from the top and i remember rappelling down into the creekbed then through the needles eye. we then went into a cave were we rappelled down a long slab of rock that was snot slick about 30 or 40 feet long and at about 45 degree angle or so, all while water was flowing down it. the we set up and rappelled down out of the exit of the cave that you guys filmed. there may have been one or two more spots that required it as well but i really can't remember. we finished by camping down the creek and took 15 man rafts down a good running very narrow part of the river..we came to a place were a large tree limb was hanging out over the creek and we were moving very fast, i was sitting in the back on the pontoon and the guys up front saw the limb coming and dove into the well of the boat. as the limb swept across the top of the boat about 6 inches above the pontoons, i didn't have room to get into the boat so i ducked down and hugged the pontoon, when i saw that that wasn't low enough, the limb would have hit me right in the head, i just straightened up and took the limb right in the gut and it swept me right off the pontoon right into the creek. to make matters worse, the captain, seeing me get swept off, stood up and grabbed my foot just as i went off. so instead of just falling in the creek and getting up, i was now skidding along on my back with someone holding my feet. as soon as he realized it, he let go and i stood up and ran down the creek and caught up with the boat..it was a helluva trip

Do not underestimate this trip. More rescues are done here each year than any other place on the Buffalo. Once in the valley with the creek you can be washed out easily during rain. Mostly it is the slippery steep rocks causing most injuries. But some just get in and can't get out for some reason. Easily listed as the toughest trail in the area. Worth the trip if you use your brains...

Do you think Springtime would be a great time to go hiking there? The creek should be flowing there in the Spring, we're planning a trip there to go hiking and fishing for Smallmouth Bass in the Buffalo River. Thanks for sharing, very nice :)

Awesome video.  We canoe various parts of the Buffalo River every spring.  We always camp at Kyles Landing.  I don't think we've ever done this trail...we usually hike a trail or two while we're there.  How long is the trail to the eye of the needle?
Also, here's an easy way to remember the difference between stalactite and stalagmite...
StalaCtite - "C" for ceiling..forms from the ceiling.  StalaGmite - "G" for ground...forms from the ground up.

I heard there are more sights and another waterfall beyond the Eye of the Needle. Who can confirm? And is it worth the time and risk?

Im most likely going to do this trail next weekend.  From watching several videos on youtube, it appears to me that everyone just basically follows the creek?    Is there is much of a trail to follow?  I'm thinking that the water might be running more than in you video.  I'm wondering about creek crossing etc.

This is a life saver for trying to figure out how to take this trail. My goal is to get to the cave opening at the 26 minute mark. Is there much of a difference in distance to that point as opposed to the actual eye? Thanks again for the video!

I'd like to try this out, but would appreciate a "tour guide" of sorts who's done it before. Who's down?

Is there anywhere to camp along the trail?
