I rode a Yamaha R7 for 7 hours on the highway...here's what I learned!

What better way to test the Yamaha R7 and how it would be as a commuter bike than to sacrifice my body and ride it for 7 hours in one day. What could possibly go wrong...

I can finally start watching motovlogs again bc I bought a bike again. No more pain of watching people ride without being able to ride myself.

Being a fellow R7 owner. I rode my bike from LA to San Jose right after I picked it up. Being that it’s a super sport, I knew what I was getting myself into. The ride wasn’t uncomfortable to me at all personally. I only stopped for gas a water during the trip, and it was honestly a blast. I thought the ride would be terrible, since I come from riding bobbers, but I was actually surprised at how nice it was. Power is there when you need it, and it’s so lightweight and nimble; it makes turning a breeze. One of my favorites bikes I’ve owned hands down!

3:24 I'm a new rider (4 months), and that 'before-the-ride' pit stop for gas and drinks with my dad is like the rite of passage for any trip to be amazing. Its the difference between 'riding together' and actually 'going on a ride together'.

7 hours isn't a commute. No one drives for 3.5 hours to work. Although I'm sure there is some ridiculous exceptions. 7 hours is a tour or road trip.

Just this week I put Vortex 0° clip-ons on my R7. The grips are a little further forward, but higher, and the grip angle has more broad contact with the heal of my hand, which greatly helps reduce fatigue over the OEM grip angle. There is just enough clearance with the cowl, and I may have just invented an MT-R7... 7 hours will not be a problem on it now, the change is just enough to make longer rides practical. I can't imagine riding 7 hours with the OEM grip angle.

Things are reasonably close, but Saturday I hope to make the last adjustments to the grips and levers positions. One thing to note, I had to order some EPDM rubber hose(1/2" OD and 1/4" ID) since the hose from the brake reservoir to the master cylinder is real short and is a limiting factor of adjusting the orientation of your grips and brake lever. I had to order the hose in a longer length, so I have some to spare, for the next 10 times I have to do this. LOL. I got what I needed though.

After having someone pull out in front of me and total my bike and my legs, I really want a new R7. It looks so good and sounds good. Cant wait to get my next bike.

IT WAS WORTH IT! 1.06M subscribers. Congratulations!! Beats out Yammie Noob without "giving away" so-called free bikes.

Gas station stops are always so much fun. We used to ride at night to drive in the cooler morning hours with my family car road trips. So when I get my bike to a garage and filling it up I absolutely get that nostalgic feeling too! Drive safe!

OC: When I first started riding, I rode everywhere on my sport bike. 100+ mile trips on the highway to get somewhere fun and all. Nowadays, I wouldn’t think twice about doing those same rides.

OC: Long rides like this are okay if you can hit up a hot tub or hot springs after. My bros and I do trips in the summer through the BC mountains in Canada and that's the only way to make it on a sport bike after. Heals up your sore back and wrists nicely after 6+ hours in the saddle on windy roads haha.

I’d definitely be using the bike to and from work. Commute is 30-45 min long, one way, so I don’t think I’d be feeling your levels of pain/exhaustion. Appreciate the work you put into the vid! [OC]

Love my R7. When riding swiftly it feels amazing. For stop and go traffic or long hauls it does get uncomfortable after a while. I reduced this problem SUBSTANTIALLY by installing a riser that brought the handlebars up about 1.75 inches. Still great to lean into it but WAY more comfortable when sitting upright or stuck at red lights. I'm 5'10 and an intermediate skilled rider.

OC: The only reason to commute and tour on it is because it’s your only bike and you do everything with it. I’d hope there will be mods that come out to make it more manageable for longer distances like a comfort seat. Throttle lock, tank and tail bag would be a must if riding for an hour or more.

Love the feeling of setting off for a ride especially with mates

That new R7 looks a fantastic bike, probably the right power for a road bike. I ride an S1000RR which is massive overkill for road work, I love it but can't really use much of it. I think 100-120bhp is probably the sweet spot for most bikes.

I had an R1 and it was a fun bike as long as the roads had curves. It was brutal on long boring highways. The thinly padded seat and the low handlebars torched my backside and right wrist respectively. I need a comfortable bike in order to be completely comfortable on the bike. Thanks for your perspective on long hauling on a Sportbike.
