Panasonic TC-P50ST60 input lag

Quick clip to demonstrate the noticeable amount of input lag on the 2013 ST60 models of Panasonic Plasma TV. (A proper shame, Panasonic usually knocks it out of the park.)

If you aren't coming from the AVS forums, midkay actually had an S60 before this, and really liked the PQ about as well. It has no input lag in comparison. He's going to post an S60 lag video sometime soon once he gets one after sending the ST60 back.

Honestly, if you are looking for response time for hardcore gaming, unfortunately the best you will find is a pc monitor with hdmi inputs. Some of those have 2ms response. I have a HP monitor thats blinding fast. This hasn't carried over to tv sets unfortunately. Bottom line is plasma has its advantages and disadvantages, LCD/LED, has its ups and downs, but there is right now absolutely no perfect screen technology. Its all sacrifice one thing for the other. Its crappy, but we are stuck for now.

so the S60's don't have this problem? I may just have to skip 3D/Smart TV and get an S60...

I think you don't know what you are talking about. Input lag is not about refresh rate (hz) or pixel respond time (ms). It is the delay time that TV output the picture from the input source. The reason for this lag is mainly because the TV engine (GPU) need time to draw or "enhance draw" the picture before send to LCD. Having high input lag made playing games like SF4 or Rock Band or any game require accuracy timing virtually impossible. Because the TV always shows stuff later than in real time.

Haha, I wish they would have the GT60 in the states this year. A shame. :(
If anything, think of it this way, with no filter, all you are seeing is a thin sheet of glass in front of the phosphors with nothing else to get in the way. As long as you can even mostly control the light in your room, the S60 is poised to do very well. CNET in their ST60 review states the S60 may get a 4-star "excellent" in PQ. We'll see. They gave the ST30 (which I owned) a 3.5 star "very good", so I'm hopeful.

I'm going to be buying a new TV for gaming tomorrow. Any suggestions? I play competitive Halo so I cannot have any HD lag. I'd like to get 50'' but if there's a slightly smaller (40-46'') tv that does not have lag then I'll go with that.

Thank you so much for making this video. I was really liking this tv in all tests/reviews until I heard about the input lag. Watching this video confirms that I won't be buying this tv. Do you have 60" tv plasma or led/lcd that you would recommend over this tv that has less input lag? Any help would be appreciated.

If you are a hardcore gamer you wont be playing on a console. Anyone who wants to game seriously go out and buy a computer and a gaming monitor. This tv will not be a problem for casual gaming. As mentioned before it will have problems with rock band, but if your playing a regular fps single player it wont matter.

Burn in, IR, phosphor trails on plasma. Flashlightiing, motion blur, and poor black levels on LCD/LED, and from buzz on the web it seems OLED will have problems with burn in, and blue oleds burning out too quick. Its all poop. People pay upwards of 2000 dollars for these sets, me included, and we cant get under 33ms response on any of them. I tell you what I feel like doing, I feel like slinging my tv remote so hard at my screen I see its innards just fly out the back of the set.

I honestly have searched hard on the topic and there is only like only 30 people who seemed bothered by this. Maybe you're expecting too much and should just stick to a 2ms computer screen ? I have not tried it but is it THAT bad? moving a screen to another on dual mode can be affected by the size ratios / wires / computer, and asks more time than action moving in a non-moving window.I'm not like a gaming crack, playing shooters is that horrible? in john hooper vids it seems I can accept that!

Looking at getting the ST60 or the S60. Your videos are helping me decide. Thanks.

We have a Sony EX650, a HX850, and one of the first 1080p SONY hdtvs. Out of them all I say the EX650 is best for input accuracy. I owned a Panasonic plasma, but it went haywire in the first two weeks, so it scared me off the plasma boat. Some kind of greenish smear of light on the right side of the screen, terrible IR, and nasty dirty white effect on a solid white screen. Did have input lag as well, but game mode helped, with reduced image quality though..

Yeah i just saw the forum post, mental, how could they ruin such a great tv, oh well the s60 sounds really good but im not so sure about no filter .. the gt60 sounds incredible, no 50hz bug aswel, the price, that scares me, not sure what it will be. I havn't seen the s60 anywhere yet (im in the UK) but will look out for it, thanks!

ST60 input lag is 66ms, far too much for pc/gaming usage which requires at max 45ms input lag to be enjoyable. Best 2013 gaming TV is by far the Sony KDL-47W805A with only 6ms input lag and great reactivity. There is a detailed review on hdtvtest website saying that it's the best tv for gaming. To conclude if you're into movies, buy the ST60 for it's insane picture quality. If you're into gaming buy the W805A for it's great reactivity/input lag. Regards.

Thanks for the video, ended up skipping over this model.

I game probably 5x more than I watch tv, and picked up an Xbox One. So that lag would be a huge problem for me. Glad I picked up the S60 model before they went extinct.
