I have literally just come across you and i am so happy i have. My story i need to be honest with myself to be honest with others. Im a 39yr old male who has done nothing with their life for 22 yrs as from the age of 17 i started smoking cannabis on a bong as i dont smoke cigarettes never have, the last 10 years really heavy they say people cant get addicted but im 1 of those 10% with cannabis addiction. nothing else has ever got me hooked i can nip in an out of drink porn gambling etc they dont bother me at all, but in time that will all stop once i can control the way i think.. Iv made my start from stopping altogether as my life was a mess am a rubbish role model i have no money no house i cant drive i struggle to show love to loved ones but get told im a decent person how so?. My life for 22 0:01 yrs has been solely about cannibis i stopped seeing my friends show no love to family all i cared about was that next hit. I am 4 days into the process of giving up my addiction its tough but its what i want to do im doing it by myself iv not asked for help as i know i can do it ony own, iv took up breathing techniques stretching and im reading about changing the way my brain works how to get my self esteem good. its challenging as i killed alot of brain cells i would think as i struggle to remember some stuff, struggle to understand certain things that come natural to most im on my path to be a better person once i start loving myself and accept this is who i am then il be on the right path, people say am a good person i have good manners im easy going i will help anyone if i can from the smallest thing like opening the door for someone i try an treat everyone with respect as i dont know whats going on in there life. I want to be better for me to be better for my family. Its a long hard and painful process i know but that is my goal to a better life my objective 100%. This was my addiction and im fighting it with all my heart. Good luck to anyone out there trying to kick an addiction i know your pain, but remember always theres a way out. Its never to late to enhance your future as i am trying to. Your brain is a poweful tool its just about finding it and using it correctly. No man has the ability to bring me to tears like Gabor Mate. I'm sure there are many others, but I appreciate how he bridges eastern and western thought into a truly holistic archetype that combines the spiritual healing of the east with the language of the good doctor of the west. Who sees through the reductionist, over drugged paradigm we live in - a true asset and gift to our modern suffering.

We hardly seldom pay attention to ourselves; instead, we focus on things like work, relationships, etc. For so many of us, trying to please people or acting in a way that we think is necessary to obtain their love, respect, or acceptance is an ongoing struggle. The true question that we should all be asking is how to reconnect with ourselves.
If you haven't discovered out how to connect with yourself, living is a difficult and frustrating game. Because contentment is not a function of what we get or how people see us. It shapes our identity, manner of life, and moral character. Others may take away all of your "things, " but they cannot take away who you are. You must develop self-love if you want to live a happy life.

After hearing dr.maté on this channel, I finally said no to something I didn’t wanted to do. Today only. It was a small thing, but all the caregivers out there will understand how our daily lives are full of small things for others. It felt odd at first and I felt tensed, trying to justify my no in my own mind. But I tried to focus on the good doctor’s words and his voice and image, and very slowly the tension receded. Then I helped the person I said no to earlier in another way that was okay to me. My whole life in a flashback became clearer to me. Don’t know how to thank dr.maté. And this channel.

I so love Gabor's profond wisdom ❤ With the help of his podcasts and reading "When the Body Says No" I've started to understand myself, and I've started my path to recovery. I have 4 chronic autoimmune illnesses and I dedicated my life to careing for others. No I'm changeing all of that. Learning to say No, learning to say Yes to myself. Eternally grateful ❤

I lost part of myself. I will never be who I was. Unfortunately in this modern society you either sacrifice everything to survive. If you do not, you will perish. My personal battle is that I cannot be genuine because I tend to be ostracized because many do not see thinks for what they truly are. The pandemic has also revealed much of society's true nature and It has made seek more solitude.

You are stating what I has been clarified in my meditations over and over the last few months which have nearly led me to suicide. I had sought out professional help many years before. One therapist was incompetent and the other far more than I could afford, but now with my own awareness and outside help, I am hoping to make breakthroughs in my pain and reach my authentic self. God bless you for explaining addiction and addicts..the judgement and callousness of friends and family keep the vicious cycle on going…no compassion for the why the person chooses to numb or escape is a cry for help…it’s a disease…the harsh judgement makes you feel unloved unworthy and perpetually keeps an addict stuck. If you’re truly concerned for the addict know this be of service have compassion. Thank you again Dr. Mate ❤❤❤
