Fun historical fact: The term Sniper originates from a hunter in the 1800's or 1900's who would hunt a elusive wilderness bird known as a Snipe using a long range musket or repeating rifle.
The snipe would at times be hard to hit and camouflaged by its brown earth pattern that mimicked its surroundings which a thing known as "Snipe Hunt" came to be at that time.
*So basically a sniper is a person who originally hunted the Snipe, along with the adaptation of the ghillie suit and cover of terrain with highly skilled Marksman who can shoot from miles away with precision and accuracy (elusive hunter/stalker/sharpshooter) is where the term "Sniper" came to be solidified into military history* .
